With all the social media buzz, we've looked closely at how its value compares with our traditional outreach programs, such as trade shows.

The value of face-to-face opportunities with our customers and colleagues at conferences remains important to us. However, the recession has led to decreased revenues for many in the sector and we imagine that your travel budgets and attendance - have also been impacted. As a bright spot though, some trade show managers are expecting modest growth in 2010, as reported in a recent Tradeshow Week article. Likewise, the industry is seeing carrier forecasts improving for the coming year.

How about a hybrid physical and virtual model? Kipp Bodnar, a social media writer, blogs about trade show value but recommends that companies integrate them with social media to drive even more return on their investments. For example, with tools like Facebook SMS, you can keep attendees informed very efficiently of your company's receptions, special events, presentations, demos, and other activities at trade shows with a few mouse clicks.

We'd love to hear what your organization thinks about social media vs. trade shows and how you'd prefer to interact with folks like us. Please take a minute to answer our eight-question survey. We'll share the results on the Agent-Carrier Connection next month.

For those of you traveling to conferences this year, please come by and say hello to us at these events:

  • NCCI AIS 2010, May 5-7, Orlando, Florida
  • AASCIF 2010, July 25-28, Lexington, Kentucky
  • PCI Technology Conference, October 3-6, San Antonio, Texas
