We have been taking lots of temperatures this year. That is, learning more about the issues presently paining agents and carriers, as well as their expectations for the right medicines (or in our context, systems) to cure ailments and keep their businesses healthy long term. Here are some recent survey highlights, which you should find useful – or even surprising. You can access full summaries of the findings at any point on the Survey Says section of our Resources page.
Carrier Agency Portals – We surveyed 40 senior insurance agents, all with hefty commercial-lines business, about the features and functions they use and want most from carrier-offered agency portals. Many of the comments were all about speed. Nearly all are using at least one carrier portal and 73% cited the top benefit as "faster turnaround" time (processing). 73% said it was very important for carriers to provide real-time feedback and quoting, and 84% said that cost-free instant upload from their desktops to the carrier, regardless of agency management system, would be “incredibly useful.”
Talent Crisis – At the NAMIC Commercial-Lines Underwriting Seminar, we queried approximately 50 underwriting session attendees for their take on attracting, training, preserving the knowledge of, and retaining talent. We learned that only a handful of insurers had leveraged technologies that appeal to Gen Y, facilitate real-time training and collaboration for new hires and teams, and capture underwriting expertise for knowledge-sharing purposes. Some are teetering on the cutting edge of tool use, but many others still rely on paper manuals.
IT and Underwriting Operations, Coming Soon - FirstBest and CGI Group, Inc. recently surveyed 45 senior insurance professionals with IT responsibilities, representing large and mid-size carriers in the U.S. and asked about their IT and underwriting operations, priorities and expectations. We will reveal the survey findings during the next FirstBest UMS Demo Webinar. Be sure to register for the August 3rd live event.
